Licensed eyewear offers very attractive diversification opportunities for brands

Following Kering’s decision to bring its eyewear business in-house exactly a year ago, some investors feared that Luxottica or Safilo could lose other major licences, raising concerns about the licensed eyewear market’s prospects. Since then, Luxottica has successfully renewed key partnerships (Prada, Burberry) whilst Safilo was able to attract Givenchy (LVMH), but also Elie Saab and Havaianas this month. Moncler is the latest luxury brand to entrust its eyewear business to a licensee (Marcolin), which shows that eyewear licensing still harbours interesting growth opportunities.
