Hotels: The industry likely affected by terrorist attack in Paris

France remained, in 2014, the world’s first tourist destination, with 83.7m visitors, up 0.1% vs. 2013, and the tourism industry contributes 7.5% to GDP. The long distant market showed a strong increase (+ 8.7%), while the mature European market contracted slightly (-1.7%). The Asian market recorded a dramatic increase of over 16%, reflecting in particular the effectiveness of accelerated issuance of visas able to Chinese customers ("48h visa ') decided on and implemented in 2014 (61% of visas issued to Chinese customers in 2014). Paris is the world’s first tourist destination with c. 32 million hotel arrivals in 2014, with the number of visitors from abroad representing 50%.
