Commercial Director - Corporate Research

As the banking landscape evolves, notably with the implementation of MIFID II, we are looking to hire a dynamic Commercial Director.

Post based in Paris:  travel within Europe and potentially the US is required

Founded in 1996, Bryan, Garnier & Co is an independent investment bank, focused on European growth companies. The bank offers institutional sales and trading, research and investment banking services to institutional investors, emerging growth companies and entrepreneurs.

Since our creation, we have specialized in the growth sectors of the economy including: Technology, Healthcare, Consumer and Business Services.  Headquartered in London, with offices in Paris, Munich and New York the bank offers unique sector led market intelligence, financial and consulting advice to our clients in large to mid to small cap companies.

Our objective is to continue to build on this approach while paying increasing attention to the small and mid-cap universe where the impact from recent reforms has been the strongest.

The company:

Bryan, Garnier & Co’s Equity department is made up of an Equity Research team of more than 20 people organized by sector practice and another 20 people who are in charge of selling this research and executing investors' stock market orders. This team of people is based in Paris, London and New York.

Reaching out to the market is one of our key priorities. We organize regular sector strategy briefings, industry roundtables, conferences and tailor-made visits with company management teams. Our deep industry relationships create unique opportunities for our clients to hear from thought leaders shaping the business, economic and investment landscape.

We also host events with policy-makers and their advisors to help our clients better understand regulatory and legal issues and initiatives that may affect their investment decisions.

Job description:

The Commercial Director / Corporate Research will be responsible for identifying listed companies interested in benefiting from Bryan, Garnier & Co’s services in terms of stock market monitoring, meetings with investors and various stock market and financial advice. These companies will ideally complement our universe of covered stocks, in particular by enabling us to improve our sector knowledge and thus enrich the content of our publications.

This role is a new position within the bank and as such is a unique opportunity to contribute to the evolution of Bryan, Garnier & Co. The changing banking landscape (notably the implementation of MIFID II) provides new opportunities for the company. The ideal candidate will have strong commercial skills and be able to leverage our DNA: global reach, unbiased advice and industry expertise all combined with the unique entrepreneurial culture of an independent partnership to create new business opportunities.

The position appeals to individuals with hands-on experience of transaction/sales origination, who seek a challenging opportunity and who enjoys a high level of autonomy. The position will provide unparalleled exposure to senior professionals and scope to really make a difference to the growth of the firm.

  • Marketing, origination and management of corporate research contracts with new and existing clients.
  • Presentations: prepare and manage pitches for prospect presentation.
  • Research and documentation: regular reports about market performance for the key stocks followed and less regular but more in-depth summaries to illustrate BG’s investment in each of the verticals.
  • Management responsibilities if the first phase of implementation and deployment is successfully achieved i.e. the recruitment of 1 or 2 junior individuals over time.

As this is a new post, we will be looking for a proven track record demonstrating the following skills:

  • very strong commercial ability
  • good communication, interpersonal skills and comfortable in working with senior management (including C-level)
  • understands the banking ecosystem
  • learns quickly, adaptable and can fully embrace the company DNA
  • open to candidates who have strong commercial skills from another industry sector other than banking (e.g. consulting, agencies…)
  • languages: fluency in French and English (written as well as spoken) is essential; a third language fluently spoken would be appreciated such as German or Nordic.

Education:

University Honors / Masters with a 3 – 5 years’ work experience.
